Nov 07, 2010· I use the brake on the Webb Mill to hold the spindle from moving when tightening or loosening a collet. I tighten them up until I can feel that the collet has seated nicely. Another inch or so on the wrench and I'm done. To remove, I lock the spindle and use a dead-fall hammer to tap the top of the drawbar. Works for me.

Aug 31, 2008· I am not familiar with the Nichols hand mill, not having seen one in more than 40 years. Typically, the back side of a spindle has a draw bar that retains the arbor. I can't imagine yours is any different. Loosen the drawbar a turn or so, then give the bar a wrap with a soft hammer.
